Gucci Bag or Rent?

Consigning my Gucci bag was as hard as giving up your beloved pet. You are entrusting your baby to a stranger because you can no longer take care of it and hope at one point you will have a glance of it on the street and reminisce about all the amazing times you had together.

I had a closet filled with designer bags, shoes and clothing from my previous positions in fashion, sample sales, and friends that gifted items to me. These material positions embodied my hard work from a lowly PR assistant making $25,000 a year to a high level Events professional at a major european fashion brand and the most highly coveted magazine in the world. I suffered under the hand of psycho PR bitches and nightmare clients, but had the time of my life running around to fabulous parties, becoming friends with interesting well-connected people, and having access to the most exclusive restaurants, private clubs, and nightspots in the city.

I remember that I wore the most exquisite Carolina Herrera silver brocade dress to the Frick Gala. Or the time I wore the one of the one-of-a-kind Ports 1961 dress that had a knotted fabric train, that slowly started to unravel over the course of the evening and ended up in a pile of fabric pieces at the evening that I had to affix back onto the dress. Or the season that I decided green was the color, and bought a green patent Gucci bag (see photo), dress, blouse and shirt - all of which I have only worn twice.

When faced with the decision of paying rent or parting with these lightly worn items, I chose the latter. On Saturday, the amazing Nancy Berger came over to my house to pick up some of these memories. They are now posted on her site Grace Group:
