One would think that I am hanging out with all of my other recently unemployed friends - but we don't because we are all "too busy." The reality is, we are in a state of denial and don't want to hang out, because it would make us appear vulnerable. It's hard to admit you are at a low, when you once had a cushy job. But apparently there are many people in this boat these days.
I would like to know what exactly are we are all really busy with? WASTING TIME. I decided to document my typical day currently and while I was working at a fashion magazine:
6 am - Go to the gym
9am - Chained to my desk at work
1pm - Unlock my shackles and quickly run down to Conde cafeteria to grab lunch
3pm - Send intern out to get Starbucks because I'm losing steam
7:00pm - 10pm - produce fashion event
10:30pm - dinner with friends
12am - asleep in bed
Here is my new schedule:
8:30 am - Wake up
8:45am - Check horoscope for sign of hope
9:30am - 12pm - Watch Today Show and peruse the jobs sites, send out resumes
1pm - Contemplate going to the gym but get hungry and eat lunch
2 - 5 pm - Go to a few meetings
7pm - eat dinner at home
7:30pm - Hit a cocktail party
10pm - Meet friends at a bar/lounge
1am - asleep in bed
Apparently all this freedom is not an effective use of time management...
