1) Responsibilities and duties will probably be far below your qualifications. I have been demoted to door duty at some events, but it gives you the chance to be out there seeing people in your industry, networking and it pays the bills
2) Be tough. Your employers will try to get anything out of you that they can to support their business. Keep in mind that YOU are a business and weigh all of your options when they ask you to do things outside of your contract. You want to have a good relationship with them but not to take advantage of you.
3) Get everything in writing. If you have any potential commissions or opportunities that come up outside of your contract, make sure to get it in writing. Your contract should indicate any possible situations that come up. If your employer tries to get you to compromise, be tough and stand your ground. Like I said, they will try to get the most out of you for the least amount of money. Have a lawyer friend look over your contracts.
