I admit that I miss the stir fry station and comfort food day at the Conde Cafeteria. I took not only the reasonable prices, but healthy options and great people watching for granted. Now, I'm faced every day with the dilemma of what to eat for lunch and who to eat with, but at least I'm not chained to my desk at 4 Times Square. Since every week I have a whole new crop of underemployed friends, the waiting list is growing. Ladies and gents who lunch have to be smart about where they lunch. My new obsession is Corrado Bread & Pastry on Christopher and Bleeker. On your walk to Corrado you can stop at Le Petit Puppy to coo at the adorable puppies in the windows. Once inside this cute Italian bakery, treat yourself to the "Recession Special." For $10.95, you can chose from three options: soup & panini, quiche & soup, and salad & panini. The portions are huge (I usually only eat half of my panini and take the rest home for an afternoon snack) and it comes with a mound of bagel chips and Sonu water. The staff is incredibly polite and attentive, as would be expected from this Italian bakery where they treat you like family. You might have to fight someone for a table, but it's totally worth it.
